Founded in Cambridge in 1983, the Islamic Academy has been a centre of educational research and public benefit for over four decades. At the heart of our research, publishing, and public engagement efforts is the Centre for Educational Thought.
Rooted in the time-honoured intellectual and educational tradition of the Quran and Sunnah, we bring together scholars, practitioners, and institutions to examine the philosophical foundations of education and develop frameworks that honour the full dignity and potential of the human person. Drawing on the richness of Islamic educational thought, our work also engages deeply with other traditions, contributing a distinctive perspective to broader conversations about the aims, purposes, and future of education.
Our work spans the development of Islamic educational philosophy, curriculum design, teacher development, academic publishing, seminars and conferences, and sustained interfaith and intercultural dialogue. Across these endeavours, we are united by a commitment to education as a profoundly ethical, spiritual, and civilisational enterprise—one that cultivates wisdom, character, and human flourishing while fostering meaningful engagement across cultures and traditions.
